Energy Efficiency Initiative
Technical University of Vienna (TUW)
active implementation
Valid: 2023 – 2027
In response to the energy crisis, TU Wien launched a pilot project at the Getreidemarkt campus to significantly reduce energy consumption without affecting research, teaching, or user comfort. Together with users and the federal real estate company, a best-practice concept aims to lower consumption by about 20%.
Measures include detailed energy monitoring, demand-based control of heating, cooling and ventilation, adaptive temperature settings, night shutdowns, free cooling, sensor-controlled lighting, modern thermostats, and a visualization platform for transparent analysis. The project also encourages everyday behavioral changes, helping reduce the university’s ecological footprint and serving as a model for future campus projects.
